What is Antara used for?
Antara, also known as Fenofibrate, is a medication that reduces both cholesterol levels and triglyceride levels. Lowering both of these levels may prevent heart disease, chest pain, heart attacks and strokes.
Antara also raises the HDl cholesterol levels, also known as "good" cholesterol.
Antara works best when it is used in addition to a healthy diet low in fat and cholesterol and regular physical activity.
Your doctor may choose to prescribe Antara medicine for other reasons not mentioned here.
Important Antara information
A healthy diet and exercise program should be followed while taking Antara.
You should not consume alcohol while being treated with Antara. Alcohol has a tendency to raise triglyceride levels and may cause liver damage.
Take your Antara medicine with an 8oz. glass of water. Take your Antara medicine exactly as it was prescribed by your doctor. Do not take more Antara than prescribed or for a longer period of time than your doctor prescribed.
If you take certain medications such as Cholestyramine or Colestipol, you should not take these drugs at the same time as you take Antara. Discuss with your doctor when the right times to take these other drugs are.
To test the effectiveness of Antara, your doctor will want to perform certain tests. In addition, your doctor will also want to run tests to check your liver function and gallbladder function. Keep all visits with your doctor and laboratory.

If you have any of the following conditions, you should not use Antara: cirrhosis of the liver, hepatitis, gallbladder disease or severe kidney disease.
Additionally, if you have hypothyroidism or diabetes, you may not be able to use Antara to control your high blood pressure. Be sure to discuss your medical history with your doctor, prior to taking Antara.
Pregnant women, women thinking about becoming pregnant and nursing mothers should not take Antara. Antara can affect your unborn baby. It is unknown whether or not Antara can pass through breast milk. For saferty reasons, it is best not to breast feed while taking Antara.
In case of Antara overdose
In case of Antara overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.
