Darvon, Darvocet: New Warnings

The FDA has cited dozens of deaths relating to overdoses of painkillers, particularly from 1969 to 2005. They are now beginning to clamp down hard on the manufacturers, and the physicians who are writing these prescriptions.
Drugs such as Darvon and Darvocet contain propoxyphene, must contain a warning on the label regarding the danger of potential overdosing. Drug manufacturers must also develop a guide which explains the importance of using these drugs exactly as prescribed by the physician, and the potential danger when using more.
Before prescribing this type of medication, the physician must be aware of the patient's medical history, and base his treatment on this.
During the above referenced years, there were 91 deaths reported due to drug overdoses and suicides caused by medication containing propoxyphene. In 2006, a petition to ban drugs containing this ingredient, was presented to the FDA. The agency denied the petition, stating that the benefits of pain medication, when used properly, outweighed the risks.
The FDA is stressing the importance of having the risks of overdose highlited on all medication labels. It is very important to use Darvon, Darvocet and any other medication only as directed. Although these medications can have positive pain reducing results; taking more than the recommended dosage can be life threatening.
Only buy darvon, darvocet & all other medications from licensed pharmacies that require a prescription from your doctor.
