Floxin Description - Why is Floxin prescribed?
Floxin is an antibiotic also known by the generic name Ofloxacin used to treat mild to moderate bacterial infections. It stops the production of essential proteins that bacteria need to survive, thereby effectively killing them.
Floxin Indications
Do not use Floxin if you have allergies to any ingredient in Floxin or are allergic to any other fluoroquinolone antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin. Floxin is also not recommended if you have abnormal potassium or magnesium levels in your blood, if you have a history of an irregular heartbeat known as QTc interval prolongation, if you are taking medication such as quinidine, procainamide, amiodarone or sotalol for heart rhythm disturbances, or if you are taking any NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) such as ibuprofen. Some medical conditions may interact negatively with Floxin, including but not limited to Alzheimer disease, seizures, certain brain or central nervous system disorders, tendonitis or are sensitive to sunlight. It is important not to drink or eat dairy products, or take antacids or vitamins within 2 hours before or after taking Floxin.
Floxin Side Effects
Floxin may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or lightheadedness, which may worsen if taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Other Floxin side effects may include diarrhea, sensitivity to sunlight, loss of appetite, nausea and/or vomiting. Though severe side effects are rare, they can include allergic reactions, inflammation, hoarseness, joint or muscle pain or swelling, nervousness, red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin, vaginal irritation or discharge, decreased urination and depression.
